Service Responsibilities of Myanma
Posts and Telecommunications
To arrange communication services for smooth and easy usage by the general public.
To satisfy the communication needs, keeping proper standard and quality.
To establish communication centers and routes in accordance with work requirements.
To adopt agreements made with international organizations and other countries.
To conduct communications related research works and studies.
To introduce new and modern services, and take advantage of state-of-the-art technologies.
To manufacture communication equipment and materials for domestic network
as well as for export,
acquiring joint
investment and know-how from private sector
and abroad.
To carry out works occasionally assigned by the Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Ministry.
Development of the Information Communications Technology (ICT) increases the momentum
of the national
economy growth.
Lack of communication facilities, hinders the development of economy.
Myanma Posts and
Telecommunications
Postal and telecommunication services for the general public must be
under the charge of the government. Myanma Posts and Telecommunications
is the sole agent, under existing laws and regulations, allowed to
provide postal, telegraph and telephone service. Private operators or
economic organizations may be granted concessions for cases approved by
the government.
To develop Information
Communications Technology (ICT)
Private sector investments in addition to government sector investments shall be
allowed.
Manufacturing of communication equipments within the country shall be arranged.
