Holding third joint committee meeting on Singapore- Myanmar Legal Cooperation

Nay Pyi Taw, March 25

       According to the Memorandum of Understanding between Singapore and Myanmar for legal cooperation, the Union Attorney General’s Office and Ministry of Law, Singapore held their third joint committee meeting at the meeting room of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 10:00 a.m. this morning. In this meeting, H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, Attorney General of the Union and H.E. Mr. Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law, Singapore delivered speeches respectively.

       During the meeting, they discussed that a memorandum of Understanding which aims at promoting legal cooperation between Singapore and Myanmar was  signed  in 2014; training and workshops on various subjects including legislative Drafting, Legal Translation, Legal English, International Negotiation, Patent, Arbitration were conducted by Ministry of Law, Singapore and Union Attorney General’s Office for the development of Myanmar’s legal sector; five Law officers were attached to Attorney-General’s Chambers in Singapore to learn theoretically and practically, and they gained a lot of good experience in legislative vetting and prosecution for Union Attorney  General’s Office;   training   and   workshops   on   Legal   Translation,   Intellectual   property   Law,. Information and Technology Law, International Law, and theoretical and practical training programmes for Legal officers will be conducted and implemented increasingly in 2019-2020; improvement of Legal framework supports strengthening of rule of Law and economic development; cooperation in Myanmar’s legal sector reform will also be promoted.

       H.E. U Win Myint, Deputy Attorney General and delegations of Ministry of Law, Singapore and Union Attorney General’s Office also attended this meeting.
