Discussion on Legal Affairs against Counterfeit Medicine

        On behalf of the Attorney General of the Union, H.E. U Win Myint, the Deputy Attorney General, received H.E. Mr. Oliver Richard, Ambassador of French, and Ambassador Jean-David Levitte, the president of the board of directors of International Institute of Research against Counterfeit Medicine (IRACM) in the International Call Chamber of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 14:30 p.m. this afternoon.

        During the meeting, they discussed the dangerous side effects of counterfeit medicine that Myanmar and the rest of the world have to face, and the need to enforce effective legal framework and punishment to producers and distributers of the counterfeit medicine. H.E. U Win Myint discussed that Myanmar has signed the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), and would cooperate with other countries in the region to combat transnational distribution of counterfeit medicine; there is an upcoming anti-counterfeit medicine workshop in the Greater Mekong, where they will discuss policies, legal framework and their implementation to combat counterfeit medicines; he also said that Myanmar enacted the National Drug Law in 1992 and its Amending Law in 2014; the Union Attorney General’s Office has been cooperating with relevant government departments for the emergence of laws in line with modern practices; and would provide training on counterfeit medicine crimes for law officers.

        Daw Nu Nu Yin, Permanent Secretary and Daw Khin Cho Ohn, Director General also attended this meeting.
